Kana Converter

The distance between ひらひら and ヒラヒラ is one script. The distance between カタカナ and カタカナ is one setting. This tool closes both.

Output

How it works

  1. Paste or type Japanese into the input.
  2. Pick a direction: hiragana → katakana, katakana → hiragana, or half-width ↔ full-width.
  3. Copy the result. Long vowel marks and 促音 are left untouched on purpose.

Notes

  • Nothing leaves your browser: the conversion happens in the page, not on a server.
  • Only kana ranges are touched. Kanji, Latin letters, digits and punctuation pass through unchanged, which is what you want when a line mixes scripts.
  • No dependencies. About forty lines of JavaScript, readable in one sitting.
